According to the leading economist Paul Krugman, there are several things he now sees being jeopardized.

Remarkably, his list of priorities is as follows:

1. Democracy in the US
2. The rule of law in the US
3. The war on science
4. The economy

So, for him, the economy only comes in fourth place. That indicates how seriously he views the erosion of the fundamental principles of the US. After all, it's even blindingly obvious that the US is heading for an economic disaster. If that's only your fourth concern, then the rest is much, much worse.

When asked, he wonders if he won't have to flee to Europe in a few months to continue writing his pieces in freedom. That's how bad it has become in the US in the meantime.

To give an example: the mayor of Newark wanted to see for himself how things are in a large prison camp within the city limits. The mayor was subsequently arrested and was still detained after 24 hours.

Three members of Congress were forcefully pushed away by Trump's Gestapo and were unable to visit the prison camp.
